Ombudsperson

    Ombudsperson Program & Training

    An Ombudsperson is a designated neutral or impartial dispute resolution practitioner whose function is to provide independent, confidential and informal assistance to their organization. The Ombudsperson is neither an advocate for any individual nor the organization but, rather, an advocate for fairness who acts as a source of information and referral and assists in the resolution of concerns and critical situations. They must exhibit the following skills:

    • Good Listener
    • Excellent communicator and strong presentation skills
    • Established reputation of integrity and fairness. Role model for the Organization
    • Respected by Peers
    • Knowledgeable of the organization and industry policies and practices
    • Sensitive to diversity issues
    • Assessment skills
    • Ethical and honest and accessible

    Selection Process

    Ombudsperson candidates shall be selected and recruited from the active membership of the Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS®. The pool of candidates shall exhibit the characteristics and skills as noted above. This will be a Presidential appointment with Board approval. The program shall consist of 5-6 Association Members serving 3 and 4 year staggered terms for consistency. Training is required and will be provided to the Ombudsperson through the Association. A list of qualified and trained Ombudsperson representatives will be available upon request from the Association office at 319-338-6460.
