Scholarship Winners 2007
REALTORS® AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
The Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce this year's winners of the Foundation's annual Community Service Awards. Tyler O'Neil (West Branch High School) will receive a $2,000 scholarship and Caitlin Copper-Leahey (West High School) will receive a $1000 scholarship. Sara Hollins (West High School), Kelly Wenman (West High School), Alexandra Letuchy (West High School) and Paige Ledger (Williamsburg High School) will each receive a $500 scholarship. These awards recognize the broad and varied service they have given to their community. "Those of us in the real estate profession consider volunteer service to our community a personal responsibility for everyone," said Tim Lehman, chair of the Foundation Trustees. "These recipients' outstanding leadership in this area distinguishes them."
In addition, the Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® Scholarship Foundation has continued to expand these awards by offering the Community Service Incentive Program. This program recognizes winners from the area's Junior Highs and Middle Schools. Mike Sobaski (Southeast), David Coberly (Solon), Michaella Garringer (Williamsburg) will each receive a $100 savings bond to applaud their awareness and encourage their continued involvement in these important endeavors.
There is a also a scholarship program available to high school seniors of REALTOR® members who have made a commitment to community service. This year's winner is Brian Stewart (West High School). Brian is the recipient of a $1000 award.
"This program's emphasis on community service mirrors the commitment of REALTOR® members who devote so many hours of service to community and civic activities," said Lehman. The main goal of the Foundation is to promote a commitment to service in the youth throughout Iowa City area communities. These scholarships are awarded for educational expenses at any accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school. Awards will be presented at the respective school's award ceremony.

Beginning January 1, 2009, educational requirements to receive a license will be raised. In addition to the 60-hour pre-license course, students will be required to take the 36 hours of education that were originally required in the first 3 years. The 12 hour courses (Listing Practices, Buying Practices and Developing Professional Conduct & Ethical Practices) must be taken before a student can take the license exam.
